History of Ophthalmology in Tennessee and the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology.

Introduction

In 1994, the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology (TNAO) asked me to prepare a history of ophthalmology in Tennessee and the TNAO.  The principal sources of information were the records of the TNAO, the libraries of the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University, and the Tennessee Medical Association.  Additional information was obtained from Drs. Lee Arnold, Dale Teague, John Montgomery, Jr., Steve Feman, Alan McCartt, Arpenik Avakain, and William Murrah.
