Dr. Erich B. Groos, Jr. is the President-Elect for the Tennessee Society of
Ophthalmology (TAO). He 2004, Dr. Groos completed the American Academy of Ophthalmology's
extensive Leadership Development Program. Each participant in the Leadership
Program is required to create a new project that will directly impact either
the members of their respective society or the residents of their city or state.
Dr. Groos' project involved finding ways to help residents of Tennessee receive
health care when they are unable to pay. Dr. Groos is very involved and interested
in political and lobbying issues, and he serves on the TAO Legislative Committee.
Along with his other duties, Dr. Groos also attends the CIGNA Medicare Carrier
Committee meetings as the Ophthalmology Representative. Dr. Groos practices
in Nashville with Dr. Ira Shivitz at Cornea Associates, located in Baptist Pavilion
North. Everton Arrindell, M. D.Dr. Everton Arrindell is the National Minority Association representative to the TAO Board. Dr. Arrindell is also a recent graduate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's extensive Leadership Development Program. He practices Retina in Nashville with Dr. Ronald McFarland. Dr. Arrindell's project for his Leadership Program was to develop a program that would take ophthalmology eye care to the underpriviledged and un-insured residents of Nashville. This innovative program takes the "doctor to the patient" instead of the patient coming to the doctor. Michael Green, M. D.Dr. Michael Green is the TAO representative (Councillor) to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Council. His duties require that he attend the AAO Mid Year Forum each year, which is held in Washington, DC and the annual meeting of the AAO, which will be held in Chicago in 2005. This year the Mid Year Forum is April 7, 8 & 9). On the day preceding the Forum, councillors meet with their respective legislators (In Tennessee: Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander and Congressmen William Jenkins, John Duncan, Zach Wamp, Lincoln Davis, Jim Cooper, Bart Gordon, Marsha Blackburn, John Tanner, Harold Ford, Jr.) Dr. Green practices comprehensive ophthalmology in Gallatin. Peter Netland, M. D.Dr. Peter Netland is on faculty at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis (TN) Department of Ophthalmology and serves on the Board of Directors as a representative from West Tennessee. Dr. Netland also serves as the president of the Memphis Eye Society; he and Dr. Steven Sarkisian, also on faculty, are responsible for the 2005 Memphis Eye Society Annual Meeting. Dr. Netland sub-specializes in Glaucoma and is a frequent national and international speaker and lecturer.
